Andres Pinter, co-CEO at installation and maintenance company Bullet EV Charging Solutions has thoughts on Honda's bid to take on Tesla.
“It won’t be easy for the automakers to catch up,” he said. “But they do have boatloads of money to throw at the problem and should outsource that work.”
Hyundai and Honda, along with American and European auto giants including General Motors, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, have formed a strategic alliance to challenge Tesla’s dominance in the EV charging network sector in the United States. This unprecedented coalition plans to establish a new company aimed at deploying 30,000 chargers across North America, initially focusing on major highways and urban centers. This initiative, which aims to surpass Tesla's current network of nearly 18,000 Superchargers, underscores a joint effort to accelerate EV adoption and enhance the customer charging experience. Despite Tesla's lead in both charger deployment and setting industry standards, the new venture signals a significant competitive challenge backed by substantial collective resources from the automakers involved.
